Let's be thankful for what Suse is doing, despite the growing pains of 10.1 and diminishing kernel support for various modules. This morning, at the office, I was greeted with the following on my laptop: (1) Security issues have been identified that could allow an attacker to compromise a computer running Microsoft Internet Explorer and gain control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. (2) A security issue has been identified that could allow an attacker to remotely compromise your Windows-based system using Windows Media Player and gain control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. (3) A remote code execution security issue has been identified in the Routing and Remote Access service that could allow an attacker to remotely compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. (4) A local elevation of privilege security issue has been identified in the Server Message Block that could allow an attacker to compromise your Windows-based system and gain control over it. (7) A security issue has been identified in the way ART images are handled that could allow an attacker to compromise a computer running Microsoft Windows and gain control over it. You can help protect your computer by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. (8) After the download, this tool runs once to check your computer for infection by specific, prevalent malicious software (including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom) and helps to remove any infection found. If an infection is found, the tool will display a status report the next time you start your computer. A new version of the tool will be offered every month. If you want to manually run the tool on your computer, you can download a copy from the Microsoft Download Center or run an online version from microsoft.com. This tool is not a replacement for an anti-virus product. To help protect your computer, you should use an anti-virus product. Just your average day in the land of mickey soft.... -- David C. Please send this crap to the suse-ot list instead. This is way off topic here and just adds useless noise to a busy list. Good morning Stan, I believe that after more that 1/2 a decade on the mandrake and suse lists I understand list etiquette and what is permissible OT humor and what is not. I apologize if I offended you, but the simple use of the [del] key will do. Being chastised by a self-appointed list admin is neither welcomed or necessary and is damaging to the goodwill fostered among list participants. The intent here is not to convey an attack on you, but rather to ask you to think through whether your response is needed and whether it adds something to a conversation or not. Good day. -- David C. Morning. I'm not a self-appointed anything on this list. I'm a list member that is tired of the OT posts to this list. I believe any OT post to this list is "neither welcomed or necessary and is damaging to the goodwill fostered among list participants.". That's why the suse-ot list was created to get these types of posts outta here. I also ask everyone "to think through whether your |post| is needed and whether it adds something to a |technical| conversation of |SUSE Linux| or not.". Thanks for the excellent material too. This ain't no tea party, kids. :) We be all serious 'bout r SUSE Linux up in here. :) And this is On-Topic since we are discussing list matters, nyuck, nyuck, nyuck...
