[opensuse] php web apps on opensuse 13.2
![](https://seccdn.libravatar.org/avatar/4de30ea19d081e0cb137efdb4fd0ec19.jpg?s=120&d=mm&r=g)
I'm having a very difficult time with php web apps on opensuse 13.2 (apache 2.4.10, php 5.6.1) The apps "sort" of come up, but do not completely display I've attempted this with php virtualbox and wordpress 4.1 Any suggestions? Nothing is being displayed in the apache error_log nor is there anything that looks odd in the access_log -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

To reply to my own question is not too good, but I've made some progress. I've found the css files are being served as mime type text/html instead of text/css still trying to locate where in the apache config this is going on -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Uhmm, let's think. TBH beforehand, I do not use php and or wordpress. 1. Any undefined / unidetified file is served as "DefaultType", normaly "text/html". 2. Most of the identification is done by ending, therefore checking "the file "/etc/mime.types" is advised. 3. Either your css files do not have the ".css" file ending, or the type is redefined in the config files of apache, also search and check for ".htaccess" files in the php app. 4. Say "F.ck you app, I do my own" and add the needed File Type definition yourself to the config (select by path / filename). Mostly, I would bet on point three, file ending not .css, and therefore point four would be needed. 1/2/3.) the files DO have css as an extension. This is code that works on other installations. It just happes this turned up using those stock packages (wordpress4.1 and phpvirtualbox) mime.types does have the entry for css and I tried forcing it in the configs as well. Just for fun, I hand built an index.html file referring to the same css files. on an older installation, it worked fine... on 13.2 4.) That was my final test. I built apache 2.4.10 from source and installed into /usr/local/apache2. Guess what? IT works! 5.) I opened a bug on the bug tracker. come on guys, can we please get it together? 13.2 MAY be a on ok desktop, but this is pretty basic stuff. is the build/test system doing ANYTHING? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Not only will the TypesConfig not work, apache would refuse start due to an invalid config if mod_mime isn't loaded and the TypesConfig directives present in the config. try apache2ctl configtest and see. It is in the list, as is mod_mime_magic. Here's how to test this... Install 13.2 on a VM (you pick the tech, I've done this now with several). Make sure Apache2, PHP and MariaDB/MySQL are installed unpack wordpress in /srv/www move the existing htdocs to the side move /srv/www/wordpress to /srv/www/htdocs point the browser to the base url of your newly installed system run the installer. It only takes a few minutes. Observe the default site installed has NO css. Open the browser dev console and you can see the css is being served as text/html, not text/css Now, with that done, check the bug tracker. Find the bug I opened and fix it... or wait long enough and I'll unravel your garbage build and fix it myself, in my copious spare time. starting with the src rpm, I removed all of the systemd patches by commenting out all references to them and rebuilt the rpms. Removed the stock rpms, configurations etc and installed my newly built rpms.
css is now correctly served I'd say that the patches to integrate systemd are faulty somehow... in spite of having been (per the notes in the spec file by Christian) "tested for months". gack! my modified apache2.spec is available on request -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Nope. that can't be, the module does not even read the request data..it runs one hook before requests even start to be served and the other runs a monitor that notifies systemd of the apache processes' status. It works now because removing the old rpm disabled the old configuration files. Did you configured apache with yast http server? did you upgraded from an old openSUSE release ? I ask because it works for me. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

it was a clean install from scratch, not an upgrade. An upgrade that fails in this manner is STILL a failed install and indicative of poor QA. As I believe I mentioned, I actually tested the fault with a clean install to several VMs. The failure is seen every time. Apache in all cases was activated and configured via yast, network services/http. On my live system, I did in fact remove the stock RPMs and then cleaned ALL configurations before installing my clean RPMs. Christian, I test and install software for a living and have built literally thousands of instances of Apache going back into the early '90s in my career. A part of my diagnostics for this was to build the same version from apache.org into /usr/local/apache2 to assure the upstream distributed code was not at fault. I also used a "simple" index.html file to present the CSS files to eliminate PHP as being the fault. "Your" RPMs improperly serve the CSS. Mine do not. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Darin, No, there are some things I do NOT use from the repos as the distro repos isn't kept up to date properly In any case, this isn't a wordpress or PHP issue per se. Part of my testing on this was with a simple html file referring to css files and these too were improperly served. The suggestion there isn't nginx over apache, it's php_fpm vs mod_php or php cgi. I don't care for nginx... I use it in my work and I'm not convinced of any superiority or additional flexibility. It has known bugs and limitations- that 's what I mean by broken. Since a better way to do things is already implemented there is no interest in resolving known issues.all the issues have workarounds. The most scary part is that mod_php runs in the webserver memory space, any bug or security problem can crash or hijack the whole thing. that's enough reason to use FPM. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Lynn Please focus. You're clearly not reading my responses. This isn't a PHP issue (mod or otherwise). An html file (index.html) referring to css files is STILL serving the css incorrectly using Christians build of Apache 2.4.10. The issue just happened to be highlighted by PHP based apps. In any case, the bug you cite is a "bike shed" for the issue I'm talking about. No, you raised the "bike shed". you defend it. It's yours -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
