How do I get the above to work with Linux ?
You will need "ralink-firmware". Here's a Webpin search for the same for oS 11.1: http://packages.opensuse-community.org/index.jsp?searchTerm=ralink&distro=openSUSE_111 I have the exact same USB adapter (not sure of the version, but same Linksys model) and it worked after installing the ralink drivers.
