Hi everyone, I was pondering the idea of downloading the SuSE ISO image, and burning myself a 7.0 CD. However, I was thinking, if 7.1 comes out soon, perhaps I'd download that instead. Any idea if it might be out soon? Thanks, Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Butler Universal Networks Information Tech. Hi all,
Absolutely no criticism of Tim intended here, (he only asked) but there now
seem to be a good number of posts on the 'where on earth is 7.1?' theme -
does everyone remember the same with the appearance of the last version or
two - weeks of 'why on earth can't those guys at International Rescue / SuSE
get a move on? Don't they know people are dying here?', followed by weeks of
'what on earth did they rush the distribution out in this unseemly hurry
for? It wasn't ready, they should have waited much longer!'
I suppose we have to go through the same thing again ...
Happy late January to all,
Fergus

I agree! With the new kernel, XFree4 and the new KDE, plus no end of other new stuff which might effect the central running of the system (I'm thinking about the new version of Perl, etc) 7.1 has the potential to screw up big time. Let SuSE test it, test it then test it again. Anyone who wants stuff sooner than SuSE can manage are perfectly welcome to "use the source".

As I said in my previous message, I was not asking for SuSE to release 7.1 sooner. I simply was curious whether I should bother with installing 7.0. I didn't want to install that version, and then find out that 7.1 would be out within a few weeks. My intention was simply that, and nothing more. -Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R. Butler Universal Networks Information Tech. Since 7.1 IS REALLY 7.0 (as 7.0 was really 6.5) and the initial problems we
had with that, i'm hoping we DON'T SEE IT untill MAY ORJUNE and that it has
had a seriously heavy testrun before we see it.

I agree. The 2.4.x kernel, ReiserFS, gcc, Qt-2.xf and KDE2.x should ALL fit together like a fine glove before 7.1 goes out the door. The alternative is the RH fiasco. They should tell the market droids to shut up.

I, like Mike Clearly who also wrote, just want to know if we should bother with 7.0. I'm not encouraging SuSE to rush 7.1 (personally, I didn't think 6.4 was polished enough either), I simply want to know the release schedule. Even though most people don't make release schedules (Microsoft and to a much lesser extent KDE come to mind <g>), but it still gives you a ballpark figure of when the software is coming out (well not in MS's case...). -Tim ----------------------------------------------------------------- Timothy R.
