I've downloaded all the latest 3.1.5 files from the Suse ftp site and during installation I get error messages stating that the files x-cue (512 bytes Oct 5) and x-iso (541 bytes Oct 5) in kdelibs3-3.1.5-0.rpm conflict with those in k3b-0.10-1.rpm (which is dated 23 October 2003 and in which the x-cue is larger, 545 bytes, and is dated Oct 12 while x-iso is also bigger at 721 bytes and is also dated Oct 21; I installed k3b-0.10-1 back last October). I've checked the KDE site and Suse's site but cannot see mention of these conflicts. Anyone also struck these conflicts and how did you overcome them (if at all)? Cheers. -- Indecision is the key to flexibility.

Had them here (on the machine at work, actually). I just did a rpm --force, then updated k3b from the Packman site without any problems. But since I don't use KDE, it doesn't matter much to me whether those files get replaced or bite the dust. -- Homepage http://scott.exti.net XFce desktop environment http://www.xfce.org Goodies for the XFce desktop http://xfce-goodies.berlios.de GPG public key ID: 811B00AB

Basil, Those files are just simple files that cause K3B to start when you mouse click on certain recordable files k3b would handle. It won't bother anything on the system or k3b, if they get overwritten. rpm -Uhv *.rpm --replacefiles DO NOT USE "--force" as one user suggested, it has potential dangers and could conceivably mess up your system if something is not quite right. There are times that --force is useful and needed, but this is not one of those. :o) Lee -- --- KMail v1.5.94 --- SuSE Linux Pro v9.0 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...

Hi Lee; an excerpt from 'man rpm' --force Same as using --replacepkgs, --replacefiles, and --oldpackage. with other words --replacefiles is as bad as --force ;) -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

Thank you, and Thanks to all the others who replied to my query. While I am at this moment downloading the replacement K3b file from Packman I think I'll do what you suggest by overwriting the earlier files because I am just a bit suspicious of the file I am now downloading: it's about a couple of Mgs smaller that the earlier one (last October) and I don't like to see files shrink (this is what happened with Mozilla Firebird recently and it wasted my time and effort in downloading the nightlies because the damn thing would not run). I like it when files get BIGGER then I know someone has been putting good stuff into them :-) . Cheers. -- Indecision is the key to flexibility.

So where does one get the KDE Update for 8.1? And what RPM's need to be installed. I went the SuSE website and found a KDE update page, but only one RPM kdebase3 looked like it was 3.1.5. -Jim-

I did what you suggested and after installing all the kde update files from the Suse ftp site I then installed the 'replacement' k3b file from Packman. All seems to be working correctly. Thanks for the advice. Cheers. -- Indecision is the key to flexibility.
