splash picture : restrictions
Hi all, Does anyone have a ready reckoner with the splash on 8.0 ? I tried changing the images for splash - and yes, sure, there is a Laetitia Casta at my console [plus top running at tty1, the same, in a corner. Moved it too - so that she looks good.]. But seems that not all images can be used. I was able to determine that jpg images version 1.01 with aspect 1x1 were most likely to succeed - else you would get an error<9> at splash time and all the splash would produce is tux - which has a bit less charisma and charm compared to Laetitia for me :-) although my chances of landing at Antarctica are more than my chances of landing Laetitia :8 So has anyone else tried it too? Are there any guidelines for as to WHAT may be used for splash, and what not? 1. As a good practice, move the image you want to use as your splash picture, in /usr/share/splash 2 ls -la in /usr/share/splash and you shall find that there are two links - one to a configfile and second to an image. Create the link to the image, and modify the configfile to suit your needs. 3. cd /boot 4. mk_initrd -h shall tell you how to recreate your /boot/initrd.x 5. mk_initrd -k "kernel" -i "initrd-name" 6. Accommodate this config in your /etc/lilo.conf 7. Rerun LILO. #lilo -v 8. Reboot. Do a file yourimagefile.jpg once. I think you can have only those files which have version 1.01 on them... like, not all jpegs may be used.
