Hi, I'm trying to open MS files with Staroffice 5.2, but I get the msg, "non-existant object, non-exsistant file". This is stupid as I can get to the files with Konqueror and if I chose "open with" it opens them in Staroffice. So if that made sense please let me know how to fix this.
What kind of MS files are you trying to open? I use Star Office 5.2 and haven't had any trouble at all opening word or excel stuff....from all versions. Don't know about XP but that's yet to be seen.

Note that StarOffice has problems with windows shares and vfat partitions. If your documents aren't on your linux partition, this is likely the source of the problems. If you use 'open with' in konqi, what actually happens is that konqi will create a temp file, and let SO open it with that. Copy the file first to a linux native partition, and open it from there Regards Anders On Wednesday 20 June 2001 01:08, Internet Niue wrote:

staroffice has only two problems with vfat partitions: 1. can't read, when mount point is containing uppercase letters 2. can't save, when running on 2.4.x kernel ain Anders Johansson wrote:

This would appear to be the problem. As I copied one of the files to my home dir and it opened just fine. Odd, thought that if I used konqueror to of view the windows directory and then chose the option "open with" and then chose Staroffice it would work. However if you tried to open these files directly form Staroffice you couldn't. Hmmm...
