[opensuse] errors after update to 11.2
I used zypper dup to upgrade from 11.1 to 11.2 After restarting it had another huge bunch of packages to update after restarting again I get this message when updater applet runs User is not permitted: org.freedesktop.packagekit.system-update -- Collector of vintage computers http://www.ncf.ca/~ba600 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

to follow up that error says to start Yast and apply the update manually. When I try that I get an orange box with UI Syntax Error Couldn't load plug-n qt_pkg check the log file On the plus side this upgrade now recognizes my Haupage 1800 TV card -- Collector of vintage computers http://www.ncf.ca/~ba600 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You are missing a package: yast2-qt-pkg-2.18.22-1.1.1.x86_64 in mine.
zypper update says everything is OK, but packagekit says there are 11 updates
I disables all the 11.0 repos before running zypper dup
Make sure you only have the oss, non-oss, and updates repos active.
Seems there is also trouble with Firefox, but the older version 3.5 I need for vmware runs
I use 3.6 with vmware. With a trick. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R. This installed OK, but I think I now have bigger problems

I did that, but when I retried I grabbed the instructions from different page (grabbed factory rather than 11.2) and now SuSE-release says 11.4

Wow! X'-) So you updated to factory instead. Well, what is done is done. Does it work? Or the symptoms you described for 11.2 are in fact about 11.4?

The plugin installs, but the console does not run by clicking on the web page. Instead, you need a little script that finds where the plugin to the console is, and calls it directly. /usr/local/bin/start-VMware-console.sh +++······················ #!/bin/bash ################################################################################ # Call VMWare Server's Remote Console in a clean GTK setup. # # Author: Holger # # URL: http://shellack.de/info/content/vmware-server-20-console-failure # ################################################################################ # Clean GTK setup for VMWare export VMWARE_USE_SHIPPED_GTK=yes # Find console executable in Firefox plugins. vmrc="$(find "$HOME/.mozilla/firefox" -name vmware-vmrc -type f -perm -111 | tail -1)" [ -x "$vmrc" ] || exit 1 set -x cd "$(dirname "$vmrc")" && "$vmrc" -h 127.0.0.1:8333 ······················++- I got the script with the package that I use to hack vmware server installation. Well a DVD update was able to restored things. There was a few errors deleting old packages, and a few conflicts with debug kernels, but it now seems to be working. -- Collector of vintage computers http://www.ncf.ca/~ba600 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Time to enable a disaster recovery plan for my home systems.
