[opensuse]v11.0 Beta3 issues
Ok, I found the following issues when installing Beta 3 on my Thinkpad 390X: 1. No graphical installation at all. I selected 1024x768 and got a text install. 2. No installation patterns available(known bug I believe) 3. System complained that boot loader installation failed. When I tried to correct it, and then had to hit the back button, it finished and rebooted. Which leads to the next: 4. System rebooted instead of restarting the system without a reboot as it had done in Beta2. 5. Automatic config worked fine. Detected and setup sound and X properly. 6. Network Manager still doesn't show any wireless connections when using my atheros based cards. I also tried using my Linksys WPC54G v3 card and still no available connections. I know there are at least 6 connections available from another laptop sitting beside my thinkpad. Any suggestions? Larry, For No. (6.) above, is madwifi installed during the 11.0 beta3 install? 23:35 Rankin-P35a~> rpm -q madwifi madwifi-0.9.3.99-36 (that 10.3, I haven't installed beta3 on the laptop yet) Also, if it is, how does your /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf compare to the 10.3 version? Just a few thoughts on the wireless issue. -- David C. Rankin, J.D., P.E. Have you put anything on bugzilla.novell.com ? That's a great way to get things done before the final release. When / If you already have please link here as I'd vote for some and interested in tracking some. Did you try the "voice read-out"? That gives text install.

Yep. That would be the case. I was curious about it, and then couldn't turn it off.

Let me see if I can reproduce it first. If so, then I will file a bug.
Thanks for testing Beta3,
No problem. Other than a few minor issues, it seems to be coming along really well. The speed of the installation is much better. I have noticed that the graphical YaST doesn't install, but that may be because I didn't install zypper. I will re-install and allow zypper to be installed. However, on such a slow system, up to v10.3 it was really slow. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Ok, on re-installation it went fine with the GUI and I left zypper in. Also, the GUI YaST came up ok. Is zypper really a full requirement now?(evidently removing it keeps a lot of stuff from working.....*sigh* I hope it doesn't slow my system down. A P3/500 isn't the fastest.) Also, when I selected the repositories I wanted, the KDE and Mozilla repos failed. And is it necessary to have all those prompts to say yes to the PGP keys? Why not one dialog with a list of all of the keys at one time? That was kinda annoying to have to wait and select each one. Now it says: Error: The metadata cache needs to be rebuilt for the 'Main Repository (Non-OSS)' repository. You can run 'zypper refresh' as root to do this. zypper is a requirement - and nothing like zmd. It's really fast and memory efficient: http://lizards.opensuse.org/2008/05/15/speed-and-memory-usage-of-zypp-in-110... On your system I would use "zypper up" instead of yast for updating software.

File an enhancement request for that.

So, don't use YOU anymore?

I think someone else already did. On another note, how do I change the default background for tty01? That dotted backround is really hard on the eyes...... Thanx -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

On a system with slow cpu and little memory, I would use zypper instead of YOU - but YOU benefits from the libzypp improvements as well, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, Director Platform/openSUSE, aj@suse.de SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

Hey, I like the dotted background, it's what we call aesthetically pleasing. You should be able to get the retro tty look by changing the "vga=<mode>" statement in the appropriate boot image entries of your grub menu.lst to "vga=normal" which would take effect on the next boot. Ok, found out that if I use the connect to 'other networks option' with my Netgear WG511T card, it will then show a list of available networks. With my DLink DWL-G630, it shows none. I can connect only using the Netgear card. The cards use the same atheros driver. It still won't show a list of available networks by just clicking on the network manager icon with the right mouse button. My linksys card requires firmware, so that's not a card I intent to make use of. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
