[S.u.S.E. Linux] Hosts Problem
Hi All; A few weeks ago, A friend wrote about how to use shortcuts on Lynx/Netscape. For example: in your hosts file put this in: 199.184.169.70 www.linuxgazette.com lj Now I should be able to just type in "lj" to get to the Linux Gazette web page. BUT, in stead I'm getting this error: *************************************************************************** ERROR The requested URL could not be retrieved _________________________________________________________________ While trying to retrieve the URL: <A HREF="http://lj/"><A HREF="http://lj/</A">http://lj/ The following error was encountered: * DNS name lookup failure The system returned: DNS Domain 'lj' is invalid: Host not found (authoritative). This means that: The named host probably does not exist. _________________________________________________________________ Generated by squid/1.1.17@proxy.straubing.baynet.de ****************** end of Error listing ************************ I'm running SuSE 4.4.1 (kernal 2.0.29) and my ISP is running a SuSE Apache server. My friend states that it works on his system, but I don't think that he has a proxy. Could my problem be with the proxy or what does anyone think? Thanks for your help!
