SLPro 8.2 - gnome-terminal problem
Hi,
I have over the weekend upgraded my laptop from SLPro 8.1 to SLPro 8.2.
The path chosen was to do a re-install but leave certain filesystems
intact (/home etc.) and only trash /, /boot ,/var ,/opt and /usr/src.
When done, the tricky part of restoring certain settings started. Not a
major problem, but one that takes time. In the process of doing this, I
had several gnome-terminal windows open, one of them ssh'd into my
server at home. On this server (running Debian Sarge) I have a screen
session running with irssi in it. I discovered that gnome-terminal after
a short while experiences graphics corruption in the tab where
screen/irssi was running. ^L would sort this, but only until the next
update of any text would occur. Leaving this for another 10-15 minutes
the whole gnome-terminal process would start taking long time to redraw
_any_ window and starting a top in an xterm would reveal gnome-terminal
eating 99% CPU until the redraw was done.
A work-around is to not use gnome-terminal for things like irssi (colour
an curses?) but use xterm/rxvt instead. This was not a problem in SLPro
8.1, and no other problems has been found with Gnome2.2 itself. If SuSE
could get an update of gnome-terminal together it would be much
appreciated.
Should the SuSE team want more data and/or a recreate I can be reached
on e-mail address below.
Regards,
