[opensuse] Foxnews Channel videos
Could someone verify whether they are able to view some of the videos on www.foxnews.com I used to be able to view them using 10.1 but at some point in time I think they made a change and the videos no longer work. The videos are called out by javascript and I think they are doing something non-standard (which naturally obviously only IE understands) I have tried several distros, Firefox, Opera, Konqy etc... and nothing works. Sound comes through but no video. I am running Flash 9 but 7 doesn't work either. Thanks. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I hear the sound but see no videos on the fox site - OTOH videos from youtube, myspace, amazon, google, etc all work fine. Joe -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yeah... same here - - - all those other sites work. I was about to try to "ring their chimes" on this issue but I thought I would check with other users first. Thanks. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Thanks.... it works fine under FireFox and Windows XP so it is a puzzling issue. But I sent them an email about the problem. Will report on any answer. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It works fine on my Mac with Seamonkey or Safari as the browser. I have no idea what video player it is using, but it must be a Seamonkey plugin, because another window opens up and the video runs up in the corner. No other player seems to be opening (like RealPlayer or Quick Time as often happens with a web-based video) so I'm guessing it is flash. The source of the webpage that pops up is full of references to various versions of flash. But that doesn't tell you anything about SuSE 10.1 -- Tony Alfrey tonyalfrey@earthlink.net "I'd Rather Be Sailing" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

So it looks like flash perhaps provides a windows codec for Flash 6 FLV which FNC use to embed the video. Weird. Why not use flash directly? <script language="VBScript" type="text/vbscript"> <!-- // Visual basic helper required to detect Flash Player ActiveX control version information Function VBGetSwfVer(i) on error resume next Dim swControl, swVersion swVersion = 0 set swControl = CreateObject("ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash." + CStr(i)) if (IsObject(swControl)) then swVersion = swControl.GetVariable("$version") end if VBGetSwfVer = swVersion End Function // --> </script> Mmmm... I'm not going through all of the JS just now, though this bit: function _hbxStrip(a){ a = a.split("|").join(""); a = a.split("&").join(""); a = a.split("'").join(""); a = a.split("#").join(""); a = a.split("$").join(""); a = a.split("%").join(""); a = a.split("^").join(""); a = a.split("*").join(""); a = a.split(":").join(""); a = a.split("!").join(""); a = a.split("<").join(""); a = a.split(">").join(""); a = a.split("~").join(""); a = a.split(";").join(""); a = a.split(" ").join("+"); return a; } could be written a = a.split(/[|&'#$%^:!<*>~;]/).join("").split(" ").join("+"); So it seems a bit poorly written, though to be fair (and balanced?) I suppose that may cause some kind problem with old browsers. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Ah, I see. What happens if you rename it to .flv or .mpeg ? Carlos E. R. wrote:

It doesn't matter, xine is clever enough to ignore the name or extension. Notice that on a flash file that works, "file" says: "Macromedia Flash Video". On this one, it says "Macromedia Flash data, version 6", which is different. It might be informative to try the same with files from other sites that do work and compare. (You can get the file from the browser cache). - -- Cheers, Carlos E. (You can get the file from the browser cache) Fair enough. What if you force the encoder to treat it as mpeg2? I think you can do that with -vf options. I guess I'll have to try it myself :-)
