(usb drive ext2, sd card fat 32, so probably not a filesystem problem)

it's very curious, it seems to be a matter of suze. relatively small move (total summ of file size) is nearly instantaneous I had to move right now 5 Gb of mp3 files from a place of the disk to an other of the same disk. select, shift mouse, move: 1/2 hour duration. after 1/4 hour, stop, move each sub folder separately, done in less than a minute.
