I personally put in several attempts - number one of which was "Susie". I don't like Geeko either - probably for the same reasons as lots of other people: 1) I do not necessarily consider myself a Geek 2) Although e-stuff is the rage right now, it is because of the money not cause "geek" is cool. 3) The mascot is a Chameleon, not a gecko. Geeko the chameleon sounds ok, but dollars to donuts ppl. start calling it a Gecko now. Whatever, I am just pissed that my choice didn't get the #1 nomination. :-) Stuart On Wed, 1 Mar 2000 12:27:37 -0500, you wrote:

That brings up a good point, isn't a Geeko a completly differant animal then a Chameleon? I like the name for the record (they are watching and monitoring use you know), easier to spell and referer to then "that green SuSE Chameleon lizard type thing" Anyways, why a Chameleon? and on a side note why the hell did Slackware use the Platyus on it's earlier versions? Hey look, If you don't like the outcome of an election, armed revolution is always an option! (Note: the opinions expressed herein are not my own, I am being remotely controlled by space aliens.) <SOAPBOX> Re: 1) I have always hated the derisive references directed toward those of us who are bookish. I was into math, physics, the philosophy of AI, and etc., long before it was profitable. It was a very difficult time in my life. I was dirt poor and worked my tail off to achieve something that no one else could understand in the least. I look at the rise of the computer professional in the same way I look at the popularity of physics after the end of WW-II. When the world found that physicists could blow up a medium sized city, women, children, household pets and all, physics became sexy. My opinion is that if physics had been more sexy before WW-II, we may have had no reason to wish to blow up such a city. The force of reason can be a powerful peacemaker. Now that physicists have done the dirty work of making the bombs and the politicians are back in control there is no "need" for physics. As they say in China "Hsi now, liyong, tsai hsi now" (brainwash, use, re-brainwash). That refers to what the government (tries) to do with its intellectuals. It seems our culture attempts something of the same, perhaps not so overtly. (Yes, I count Western Europe as part of "my" culture.) The irony of it all is that I was pretty much a juvenile delinquent metal-head growing up. I kept my intellectualism as my own dirty little secret. 2) I may be a geek, but I'm becoming a rich geek! Geek might not be sexy, but rich is! 3) Indeed, a chameleon is not a gecko. It would not matter so much if this were not a computer scientific list. If this were just some school mascot, we could afford to be sloppy, but technical accuracy is essential to the usefulness of a list, and product, of this nature. 4) What bothers me more than the fact that those who are willing to be lose with their semantics won this contest, is that the FINE lizard is always GREEN! This is a FINE chameleon! Chameleons change color! <\SOAPBOX> Steve Stuart Hall wrote:

There is a Ty Beanie Baby, "Rainbow the Chameleon," at http://cyberianmall.com/beanies/rainbow.htm It doesn't look much like a chameleon to me. But at least it's not a lizard. jim bennett -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
