This is always going to be an issue with heavily populated directories. I use ext3 with the dir_index feature enabled which provides adequate speed. If you have more than one drive then putting the journal on a different drive can improve performance. As can placing the swap at the beginning of a drive (or better still on a drive on its own) Dylan

how to do that?
