[SLE] laptop problems: serial mouse
Hi there I've installed SuSE 6.2 on a Twinhead laptop, thereby encountering several mysteries. The machine has a built-in touchpad, but I want to use a serial mouse instead of the touchpad. Both sax and XF86Setup are happy to configure the touchpad as a ps2 mouse on /dev/psaux. However, when I try to use a serial mouse then no combination of /dev/* or protocol produces any effect whatsoever - it is as though the mouse is not connected. If I try to cat </dev/ttyS0 then I get no input from the mouse. However, this entire physical setup works perfectly under win95, and I think I have sucessfully used this mouse (as serial) on a different linux computer. Anyone suggest what might be going on, or indicate what I have forgotten? The kernel is the stock EIDE 2.2.10, as loaded from the installation disk. (I tried making other kernels, with built-in serial support, and with modular serial support: behaviour remains the same.) The mouse is a 3-button Logitech Mouseman. The laptop serial device appears to be at the conventional 03F8/int 04 location. If I attach a Trust mouse then both sax or XF86Setup go completely nuts with apparently continuous and completely unusable input from it, so it looks as though the serial port is capable of receiving info. I'm completely stuck :( brian -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
