Is there some simple way to test a mic connected to the computer via usb port? When trying to set up skype, there was a test protocol, which I failed--it said the mic was not working. I haven't been able to get back to that particular routine again.

you will continue to have *many* problems until you correct your system, that includes logging in and running as <user> rather than root.
and helping you solve your problems before then is a lost cause.
Strongly suggest reinstall following accepted standards.
As I mention in another post, the root login has been solved--by someone, not me. Login to Konsole produces a user display. Su requires a password, and produces a root display. I installed the system from a downloaded CD, just like everybody else. I have no idea why it came up the way it did, but I am not going to reinstall this system. PERIOD!
The YOU will live with your PROBLEMS, PERIOD. As no one can solve your problems since you follow no standards and do not follow instructions. And why respond personal mail to mailinglist post. no-no-no -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
