Greetings I am experiencing and interesting problem with my 92 box, Specifically with Kontact. A bout a week ago I changed the routing on my box so that I did not need to go through the proxy. For a week all was fine, Today all of sudden I keep getting request for my proxy username and pass from Kontact/KMail. It seems something is trying to go somewhere!?! I have dbl checked the global variables and Yast proxy settings but can't pin what is causing the abnormal behaviour. Anyone here have and ideas ? -- Chadley Wilson Redhat Certified Technician Cert Number: 603004708291270 Pinnacle Micro Manufacturers of Proline Computers ==================================== Exercise freedom, Use LINUX =====================================

How bout checking the settings in the packages that are causing problems rather than global variables... Kmail can manage several accounts, each with a different transport configuration.

Don't be a dick. The person asked a question about SUSE and Kontact.. it was pretty obvious that they were NOT asking a Redhat question... mainly because there is NO such beast as RH 9.2 .. after 9.0 it became Fedora Core. Just play nice. We don't need that kind of attitude around here.. bub. -ben -- "There is no need to teach that stars can fall out of the sky and land on a flat Earth in order to defend religious faith."

I agree Chadley's been on this list quite awhile and nobody has complained complained before. Personally, I think it's great that he is Red Hat certified. Rich

John, I think you should keep your opinions about other people to yourself esp on a public list. FYI - I have already uninstalled all of the packages that I believe affect kmail/kontact in some way or another, these included kmail/kontact and deps, Yast / yast2 and a whole bunch of deps, some others too I have also loaded another laptop which is exactly the same as mine, (this is easy since we here at proline computer manufacture them) then replaced whole /etc directory, I also reinstalled the kernel and initrd. I then downloaded and the lastest rkhunter, which only complained about the fact that I use ssh in a insecure fashion, but it is only internal so its not important. All-in-all this is why I have questioned whether there is a possibility of malicious code in the form of a virus/worm/trojan running on my laptop. If not then there must be some daemon running when Kontact is running and is trying to access the net via proxy, which I must have missed. So to try and belittle me publicly is ridiculous, especially when you don't have all the facts. I would like to add that as I hate email that is 1000 lines long, I try to simply mine, and get to the point. That being said, I believe you should hold your flamming tongue and concentrate on helping others, Since no-one here believes there is such a virus/worm/trojan I will have a deeper look at my system to try and resolve the problem. And leave this issue be. What is it kmail or kontact? If you think the latter, it can be that you have configured kontact's organizer to read data from a extern system resource/system. This will save the information every now and then after you have made changes in the organizer part of kontact. If this is the case, set it to readonly to cure it. -- Richard

Chadley, I'm sure you already know but it wasn't John that said the disparaging words. It was another poster who did not read your original post correctly. If he had he would have seen the reference to 92 box. As for your sig file containing references to Red Hat....so what? All I can say is good for you for embracing different distro's. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Would people frown on me and attempt to initiate stupid and outdated flame wars if they knew my beliefs and preferences? So, keep the sig file as it is and ignore the troublemakers I say :-) -- Take care. Kevan Farmer 34 Hill Street Cheslyn Hay Staffordshire WS6 7HR

I don't think he did. You should put the blame where it is due, and not blame the incorrect person. As to the real problem at hand, sorry, I don't know. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Just a thought but have you checked the settings in the KDE Control Center, especially the "internet and Network" ones and the specific settings for your NIC in YaST? That's another source of global configs. Also, you could try moving/renaming the kmail config file temporarily and seeing whether problems persist (I think it is /home/mark/.kde/share/config/kmailrc - but I don't use kmail). It is quite hard with Linux at the moment - so many settings in so many places! :) Fish
