I know. Reiserfs is deprecated and is no longer supported, but some things that I have seen on the network lead me to believe that it may be possible to download the necessary files and (at least temporarily) enable it, at least long enough to copy the files off. This would be a big help in recovering some old filesystems. Does anyone have documentation on exactly how to do this? If all you want to do is recover files, why not download an old live CD and use it?

I explained what exactly needs to be done to re-enable reiserfs. Thread "[oS-en] Leap 15.3: can't mount /home". -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.2 x86_64 at Telcontar)

How about just mounting the filesystems ? Unless you are on 15.3, it just works. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (8.4°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland.

If the goal is "to copy files off", it just works on 15.3 too.

Ah yes, you're right, of course. read-only is supported. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (3.4°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland.
