[SLE] Configuring Clients
Hi This question is a little off-topic, but I hope you can still help. I have set up Samba on a Linux server which acts as a NT Domain Controller, Fileserver and Mail Server. I'm looking to configure the (Windowz 95) clients so that no matter which computer a user logs on as, they can keep their settings (outlook folders, start menu, favourites, etc...). Each user already has a home directory (H:\) which changes depending on who is logged on, so I was thinking about saving settings and data there. I have tried to do this by playing with the registry and the System Policy Editor, but with no luck. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, Andrew Smith <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HEAD> <META content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" http-equiv=Content-Type> <META content="MSHTML 5.00.2614.3401" name=GENERATOR> <STYLE></STYLE> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=#ffffff> <DIV><FONT size=2>Hi</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2>This question is a little off-topic, but I hope you can still help.</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><FONT size=2>I have set up Samba on a Linux server which acts as a NT Domain Controller, Fileserver and Mail Server. Also.. If you look at the Windows 95 Resource kit about roving profiles, you will see a section that describes how to enable those profiles on servers that are not conforming to WinNT or Novell standards. This is of course pointless since Samba sort of emulates NT, but there is also a brief section detailing how to enable them for an NT server.. Have a read of that and the Samba docs and you should be well prepared. Cya Matthew Matthew King: Sys Admin, Quakers Hill High School. My ICQ#: 2342475 Message me!
