Moneydance & the 100 Transaction Limit
hello.. Using Moneydance off the 8.0 cd's. I may have screwed up by updating the thing, now it won't let me enter any more transactions. Or perhaps it doesn't make any difference that I upgraded..either way..do I really have to buy a license to continue ? Thank you for your time. Lee
Yes, it's a demo. No matter if you download it from the Moneydance site or use the pkg on the SuSE CD's. It's going to stop working after 100 transactions. I bought it in fall of 2k and I've been using it ever since. It has a setting to check for updates and since I bought v2.0 I've been getting updates online with out shelling out any more then the original $25. :) I'm on v3.2 BTW...I really like it. * lee (lnx@alltel.net) [021021 20:08]: ->hello.. -> ->Using Moneydance off the 8.0 cd's. It is now up to $39, but when I did the same as Lee (it's been a while now), I decided to shell it out, I had too much data to quit by then. ;-)
I'm on v3.2 BTW...I really like it.
Same here.

I'm not sure if the one on the CD is a demo or not, but I did the same thing as you. I ended up just paying for it. Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. I'm not sure Moneydance I'm $39 better than GNU Cash. I've used both of course. Why do you like MoneyDance better than GNU Cash ? Perhaps there are some features in there I'm not aware of yet ? Lee On Tuesday 22 October 2002 02:30, Joe & Sesil Morris (NTM) wrote:

Lasttime I messed with it was so messed up that the debts were in the credits column and the credits showed up in the debts column. I second it for the "worked out of the box" comment. I also use Moneydance - bought a license back when it was still $25. I looked at GnuCash and a few other packages. I found most were either too eloborate, too expensive, or too unripe (needed more development time) to use. All I was looking for was a simple package that I could use to keep track of my bank account, loans and credit cards. Moneydance fit nicely... I was even able to import my MSMoney data without any problems (as long as I used the Quicken format). I haven't looked at GNUCash since then... maybe it's better now, but I had the same experience Ben had with it messing up debit and credit data... that was quite a long time ago though. C.

Are they still developing/support MoneyDance? The last time I checked it looked like the company that owned it was going or gone under. Has someone revived it? --- See Ya' Howard Coles Jr. John 3:16!

Interesting, I hadn't heard that... this prompted me to do a bit of digging. Moneydance was developed by Reilly Technologies, and Appgen bought the marketing and distribution rights - from what I can tell, this happened in 2001. http://www.moneydance.com/news.shtml I took a look through the Moneydance mailing list archives. Appgen claims to be supporting the product, but the support seems to be you get the product as is, and can refer to the mailing list for any help. The development and support for Moneydance seems to have died around April of this year. This is what appears to be the official announcement from Appgen: http://www.moneydance.com/pipermail/moneydance-info/2002-April/002609.html This said... I think I would change my reccomendation for buying a license. Moneydance works, and works very well. Just because Appgen is no longer supporting the software does not mean it will suddenly stop working on my machine. But... in light of the fact that they cannot support the product anymore, it may not be the best decision to start using it as a new user. There are no guarantees that the product will be updated and rebuilt when new versions of Java are released, and it may or may not work at that point. I will continue using it for now... but in the mean time I am going to start evaluating other choices. C.

If so I would like to hear impressions of the software and if it is worth getting. Hi: I have been testing Kapital on SuSE since the product was announced about almost two years ago. It has been a slow development cycle. SuSE support for

Also the KDE Kmymoney2 accounting program will support importation of the Moneydance XML output file in their version 0.8. They will also have most of the Moneydance features by then also. Well, that is interesting. The good part about it is it would take me much longer than two weeks to find another package ;-) I work slowly at these things... especially when Moneydance works so well right now. So... 2 weeks... I can deal with that. I hope it's good news, that the project will be restarted - Moneydance is a nice product. C.
