dep, I pulled a few strands of hair out with the OPL3SAx in my Toshiba laptop as well. But it's working fine now. First, try running 'autoconf' (as root via the terminal). Autoconf is ALSA's sound configurator. I couldn't get it to work in SuSE 7.1, but in 7.3 it picked my OPL3SAx up.
