Use rsync to update Suse 9.0
Hi all Suse users, FYI..act on it any way you see fit..for me it was a learning experience..would like to share it with you..and it works for me. I created scripts to run the various sites. Would like to mention a linux friend on the newbie mandrake list.. Ron Stodden..creator/maintainer of Dalziel..downloader for mdk updates with rsync..for his..unselfish..sharing of his knowledge via various emails we exchanged. Please note that this is miles behind Dalziel..never ment to be like that. BE PREPARED..to spend a lot of time the first download..later it will just attend to changed files. #rsync friendly update suse sites... This should work as is on suse 9.0..for other versions change the version number on remote site..BUT..the local directory structure may differ. #To test a site like...rsync rsync://ftp.gwdg.de:873/..if unfriendly you will see..if friendly you will see a lot scrolling by. ############### #ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/update/9.0/ #ftp://ftp.gwdg.de::pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/update/9.0/ #rsync rsync://ftp.gwdg.de:873/ #To download..my setup..the dots after /9.0/. is required remote & local. For 9.0 you should use rsync://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/suse/i386/update/9.0/ Regards, -Kastus

Hi Vic, Quite true..eventually got through. Downloaded some of the pages for further study. Even saw there are 2 sites less than 100 km from me. Thanks for your insistance to try to reach the site. This will add to my knowledge. I am actually glad I went through the learning curve the hard way..it improved my way of thinking about these cases. Thanks -- Johan Registered Linux User #330034 May this be a good day for learning - Still learning.

I am -not- a member, clicked on the link and was able to view the page. It states on the page that it not necessary to be a member to search. Ken
