[opensuse] nvidia driver
Hello SuSE people, Downloaded the latest nvidia driver last night. (100.14.09) RPMs from the Nvidia repo. Installed OK, but, GLXgears shows only about 2900 FPS. Shouldn't it be much faster? I get the nvidia spalsh at bootup amd my xorg.conf shows nvidia as the driver. Doesn't appear to be right. Any suggestions? 2900 fps? wow, wish I could get that many. If you were using the plain old frame buffer you'd be lucky to get a few hundred FPS on glxgears. Joe -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

2900 would be great by me......thats more than double what I have !!! 5802 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1160.341 FPS 5917 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1183.387 FPS 6317 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1263.319 FPS 6513 frames in 5.1 seconds = 1285.175 FPS 6598 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1319.585 FPS -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I get about 1500 fps on Dell Latitude D820 with Geforce Go 7300GT (Suse 10.2) On my AMD64 64 X2 +3200 AGP8, Geforce 7300 GT I get 8800 fps without Compiz and about 6500 fps with Compiz. (Suse 10.2) On my AMD64 64 X2 +4600 PCIE X16, Geforce 7300 GT I get 6800 fps without Compiz and about 4500 fps with Compiz. (Suse 10.3, Beta1) These are all with the 100.14.11 driver, but I got about 2% less with the 9639 driver. Seems to depend a great deal on the video card interface. Well yeah, butthe gears were in that little box. When I go full screen it drops to about 200 FPS. The previous driver used to whip those gears so fast you couldn't see the cogs. Don't remember the numbers. BobS. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I wonder if maybe there was a change in glxgears. At some point... I think around the release of 10.2, I noticed that glxgears changed visually from a blur to a much slower display. At first I thought my video card was not set up correctly, but the terminal output seems to be right. 19862 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3972.378 FPS If I go full screen (1680x1050) with it, it slows down significantly 1500 frames in 5.0 seconds = 299.848 FPS (this is with the latest nVidia drivers on a 7600GS) C -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

glxgears is NOT a benchmark. Jan -- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
glxgears is NOT a benchmark.
... but glxgears is an indication that you actually do have your video drivers set up correctly. If you are running on Mesa for example, glxgears will report something like 150FPS if you are lucky.... whereas if the full drivers are installed, glxgears will report some higher number (depending on the card) like 3000FPS... a number you cannot get (using the default glxgears windowsize) with the generic video drivers. I have had situations where a video driver was not being initialized correctly.. it was half way there. Without the driver I got around 100FPS with glxgears. With the driver misconfigured I got 700FPS. After much tinkering I was able to correct the misconfiguration and got around 2500 FPS. So what glxgears is not a full test, nor an accurate test. It visually proves a point that you could verify in lots of other geeky ways like checking your Xorg logs. The latest nVidia driver is 100.14.11 and not x.09. However, you would need to go to the nVidia site itself to get it.
