Some of the typed lines in in x windows in my pro-7.1 were either cut off in the middle if the typed line or even looked as though they were even hand written. I ran sax2 in order to hopefully fix that and now my mouse pointer is a big square and I have no control in x windows. I am trying to figure out how to turn off x windows but have not been able to get into the unix like text environment and really don't want to reload for 10 hours again. Does anyone know how I can get back into my system without reloading? Also how can Xwindows be kept from automatically starting?
Boot from the CD or a rescue floppy. Mount the root partition on the HD and edit /etc/inittab. Look for # default runlevel id:2:initdefault: Your inittab would probably have a no. 5. Change it to 2, then reboot. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- John Karns jkarns@csd.net
Has anyone here had any luck getting Suse 7.1 thru Best Buy's web pages? I ordered Suse 7.1 Feb 22 and they have been backordered since then. Best Buy doesn't know when they'll actually have Suse 7.1 on hand for shipping. Weird, they have 7.1 in stores, physically, but can't ship thru the web....must be a different distribution system. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Karns" <jkarns@csd.net> To: "SuSE Linux" <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Cc: "JB" <mbvalentine@pdq.net> Sent: Saturday, March 24, 2001 12:04 AM Subject: Re: [SLE] problem getting back into pro-7.1
