Hi Could someone recommend a scanner that is easy to install and works nicely under SuSE 7.2? My spouse has Canon FP630C, that is not supported, and I want to buy a new one, that works and is easy to install, just to make her happy with Linux. There is not SCSI-card, but USB is there, so I believe it should be USB...? Jaska.

Maybe I can make your day :) I just bought an Epson Perfection 640U, USB scanner. So far it works just fine with the sane Epson device. BUT! No guarantees expressed or implied. I run Suse 7.2 and kernel 2.4.10. -- Regards Cliff

Hi Things are starting to point towards Epson... What I have heard, is that Epson does give information also for printers of the protocol used etc, so that making drivers for Linux is easier. This seems not to be the case with many other manufacturer. As a result, I will support Epson in future, also in printers etc... Thanx Cliff Jaska. Viestissä Sunnuntai 7. I was looking into this matter as well this weekend. I was about to order, I am going for the epson 1240U. However, there are 2 version of this scanner with (1240U photo) and without photo (1240U). Does anyone know whether this specific photo stuff is supported by Linux? Op zondag 7 oktober 2001 15:44, schreef je:

I can enthusiastically recommend the Epson 1200U, a USB scanner that works well with SuSE and SANE, and gives great scans. This scanner is easy to get working in SuSE. As a general rule, Epsons are known for being easy to set up in Linux. You should still check the SANE page to make sure you have a model that is known to work. It was very easy for me with SuSE 7.2. I believe there is one known model of Epson scanner that will not work since it apparently uses a different protocol than all the other Epson's do .. I cannot remember the model number. Just be sure not to but that one !
