Hi, -----Original Message----- From: Daniel Honzik [SMTP:dhonzik@yahoo.com] Sent: Thursday, July 29, 1999 4:41 PM I have SuSE Linux 6.1 installed with the 2.2.10 kernel and KDE 1.1.1 installed. I would like to try out GNOME 1.0, but every time I try the command startx gnome it says that XFree is not yet configured. My problem is that I had to go to a commerical X-server due to the fact that XFree doesn't support my graphics chip. I am using Accelerated X Ver 5.0 by Xi Graphics. How do I go about seting up the link so that error doesn't keep poping up? I had the same problem with my laptop. The easiest way is to run xf86config (the text based one) and go through the whole thing picking any server you might have installed (like svga or something), do not let it probe anything, do not let it make the link, don't let it do anything except make the configuration file. Whatever is causing the error will now happy because you've "configured" X. Accelerated X won't care because it uses a different configuration style. Unfortunately, I went through this before I found out my video card/LCD works with XFree if the kernel is compiled with frame buffer support. Is Gnome better than KDE? ??? Good luck, Tim
