sliding xterms from one virtual terminal to the next
SuSE 9.0 with apt upgrades, Matrox G550 dual headed, one OR two monitors. If I tell YAST that I have only a single monitor, it writes XF86Config with only one Monitor section (monitor[0], modes[0]) and only one screen section, and only one device section. If I connect the second monitor, YAST refuses to recognize any capability for adding dual headed operations. It seems necessary to have XF86Config initially written for two monitors, or else manually insert all the second monitor/mode/screen section so YAST can reconfigure things. In the single headed configuration, I can grab an xterm and slide it from one virtual terminal to the adjacent virtual terminal, whether above/below or right/left. If I perform an install with two monitors connected, then it is not possible to slide an xterm from a virtual terminal to the adjacent virtual terminal to the right. Going up/down or to the left is OK. In any case, the xterm can slide part way into the adjacent rightward virtual terminal. After clicking into the right-side virtual terminal, one can grab the xterm and pull in all the way in (left-->right motion). Where is this functionality controlled? Approximately similar differences show up in Debian + KDM + Windomaker and in SuSE + KDM + FVWM.

You can configure the Dual Monitor setup in Yast (or SAX2 as is the case here). I've got a 450, and a 550 setup dual screen xinerama. (not to mention my laptop)... Since I don't know what you configured by hand, I'll refrain from commenting on the rest... Jerry

You can configure the Dual Monitor setup in Yast (or SAX2 as is the case here). Yes, YAST calls SAX2 for changes to a system. If the initial install was dual screen, SAX2 can modify either. But, if the initial install was single screen on a dual-head video card,

Yep, got a G-450 on the Duron 850 SuSE 7.2 dual screen CAD system, and a G-550 on this 1.6 GHz AMD "experimenting" box.

I prefer to do it all w/ YAST calling SAX2, but have tested manually adding the 2nd head sections in XF86Config to enable a 2nd screen when SAX2 can't seem to handle it. Also, if I pull the XF86Config from a dual-head install and substitute it for the XF86Config in a single-head install on the same machine, then SAX2 does OK.

I think this started in SuSE 8.2

Well, I made that mistake too several times. My solution in KMail: Place a 'Reply to List'-button left of the 'Reply'-button Cheers, Leen

Or just use the l key (l = lowercase L)
