[OT] best kernel scheduling patch for a workstation
Seome month ago I was reading about various realtime and low-latency patch for the kernel . It was noted in the article that the one the Author thought would make his X desktop zippy didn't, and the other one did. Now I can't find the article, and I also can't find the patches (though I admit I did not spend too much time looking for that patches). I'm just wondering what patches you guys find to be the most benificial for a workstation. JW

I've had good luck with the low latency patch for 2.4.18. There is a SuSEified version of patch on their ftp site. I noticed some improvement in 3D games, specifically smoother sound. I didn't really notice an improvement in general X apps. When I was running 7.3, I tried to apply the preempt patch, but the SuSE kernel had been modified too much and I could not apply it, even manually.
