We use 12.1 on our servers and have some X11 thin clients. The thin clients see our servers via XDMCP and can connect to them. Besides that KDE has extremely poor performance over the network it works fine. I believe the problem is with using openSUSE 12.1 to connect to the servers, not making the servers available. I have used the remote login to access XDMCP enabled servers for years, with several versions of openSUSE, up to 11.4. However, the remote login is broken in 12.1. The problem has been reported in bugs.opensuse.org, but there has been no resolution to date. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

You mean that opensuse 12.1 cannot conntect to the server when it is used as the chooser? Christoph -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Yes. It worked in 11.4 and earlier, but is broken in 12.1. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

If this issues stays broken might it make sense to use a different display manager as default in the future? James, Quick question, did you tell 12.1 to turn on XDMCP, it looks like it off by default. Under "YAST" --> "SYSTEM" --> "/etc/sysconfig Editor" --> "Desktop" --> "Display Manager" There are three fields that are set to "no" DISPLAYMANAGER_REMOTE_ACCESS DISPLAYMANAGER_ROOT_LOGIN_REMOTE ( up to you only ) DISPLAYMANAGER_XSERVER_TCP_PORT_6000_OPEN Have you try to set those to yes and restart? -- Terror PUP a.k.a Chuck "PUP" Payne (678) 636-9678 ----------------------------------------- Discover it! Remember to open of the firewall for xmdcp. I can connect the fresh install of 12.1, but I do notice from KDM screen there is no remote access option like before, which sucks. One more then, though you can't log in from KDM any more once you are logged in, there is a program called "Remmina Remote Desktop Client", what will let you log into servers running XDMCP. -- Terror PUP a.k.a Chuck "PUP" Payne (678) 636-9678 ----------------------------------------- Discover it! Looks great, except... I can't log in. I tried to connect to my computer and entered my ID & password, but instead of getting the desktop, I was returned to the login screen. I can connect using remote login on another computer running 11.4. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Hmmm... It appears that it won't connect to the same computer it's running on. It does when connecting to other computers. Telnet doesn't connect. However, this only affects connecting to the same computer as I'm running Remmina on. I'm not worried about that, as I only tried it as a quick test. It does work to other computers. However, one thing I've noticed is that when I connect from a computer with a 720p display to one with a 1080p display, I get scroll bars on the side. I've tried that "1" button, but that doesn't help. Going the other way works fine. With remote login, I never saw scroll bars. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

I don't have a firewall enabled on this computer. Regardless, the problem is when I try to connect to other computers, such as my server, from 12.1. In openSUSE, when you select Switch User, there's an option for remote login, which brings up a list of available system. The problem is that as soon as you move the mouse or press a key to try to select the remote system, the list disappears. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org

Are you referring to remote login from openSUSE 12.1? As far as I know, it's still broken. I haven't seen much activity on it on bugs.opensuse.org. It's apparently a KDE issue, but I have no idea what's happening there. I sure hope it gets fixed soon, as it's something I use frequently. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
