Does anybody have an idea, why k3bsetup doesn't exists under SuSE 9.2 anymore? Or even better how I can install it or what I can do else? My search for a solution for that led me to the conclusion that it existed in SuSE 9.0 but since 9.1 they removed it from the configuration! Am I right? In order to satisfy k3b's note that cdrecord and cdrdao do not run with root privileges, was to "chmod u+s cdrecord cdrecord-dvd cdrdao". But that led to the error that k3b wasn't unable to find cdrecord anymore. Any suggestions? Martin

I found it under system >more programs >k3bsetup. It required root privileges to run. Mike -- Powered by SuSE 9.2 Kernel 2.6.8 KDE 3.3.0 Kmail 1.7.1 For Mondo/Mindi backup support go to http://www.mikenjane.net/~mike 1:10pm up 16:27, 3 users, load average: 2.19, 2.23, 2.19
Thank you Mike,
but it isn't installed at all on my system!
But in the meantime I found some more information on that issue which told me that I don't need it (I simply can ignore the warning of k3b) since SuSE has its resmgr and handles such things with it.
I guess I should have had a look onto the resmgr some time ago, since I had some other problems which can be based on errors inside that configuration (on my system). Well and again I learned something new about my system. Not too bad at last :-)
Thank's again Martin
I guess I have been a bit too early in saying it is solved ... I know that I have to setup the resmgr in order to get my users be able to f.e. write CDs with the burner. I thought it shouldn't be too dificult to do that. But I coudn't figure out how it has to be done yet. Nothing of what I did did change anything yet. So, I was looking through the SuSE documentation (installed on my system and on the net) but (I would say) there isn't much to the resmgr. Could anybody refer me to a documentation so that I can setup the resmgr in a way that it will change ownership permission of f.e. /dev/hdb (my DVD-Burner) to a user when (s)he logs in, please?

Thank you Joe, the link is ok, but why shall paride be in there? However, I did as you suggested. First the corresponding lines looked like this: add /dev/hdb desktop add /dev/hdd desktop and now they look like this: add /dev/dvdrecorder desktop paride add /dev/dvd desktop paride But in both cases the directory entries look like this: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 Dec 30 23:06 /dev/dvd -> hdd lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 Jan 7 17:53 /dev/dvdrecorder -> hdb brw-rw---- 1 root disk 3, 64 Oct 2 2004 /dev/hdb brw------- 1 martin disk 22, 64 Oct 2 2004 /dev/hdd I restarted the resmgr by launching "rcresmgr restart" and it said it did. I then logged out and in again, but still it looks as described above. What am I doing wrong here? There must be something I am missing here. So far I have no clue what it is. Martin

i believe it is there in case the drive is connected via parallel. Probably not needed.
But in both cases the directory entries look like this:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 Dec 30 23:06 /dev/dvd -> hdd lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 3 Jan 7 17:53 /dev/dvdrecorder -> hdb brw-rw---- 1 root disk 3, 64 Oct 2 2004 /dev/hdb brw------- 1 martin disk 22, 64 Oct 2 2004 /dev/hdd
Interesting. resmgr appears to configure your dvd, but not the dvdrecorder. Could you post your /etc/resmgr.conf? Also check /etc/logindevperm, which determines the permissions (but not the owner).
What am I doing wrong here? There must be something I am missing here. So far I have no clue what it is. What version are we working with BTW? Mine works as expected, so I'm sure we can get it. -- Joe & Sesil Morris New Tribes Mission Email Address: Joe_Morris@ntm.org Registered Linux user 231871

/dev/dvdrecorder and /dev/dvdram are missing in resmgr.conf before 9.3. Just add them like the others. Ciao, Marcus

Thank you Marcus, but as Joe suggested, I was missing the entry in /etc/logindevperm. I had changed the entries in /etc/resolv.conf but didn't know anything about /etc/logindevperm so that it didn't work. But now it does. Have a nice day Martin
