I've just got a brand new P4, 1.6ghz cpu, 400mhz bus, 512mb ram, adaptec 29160 controller, 18gig seagate cheetah hardrive, ide cdrom, intel pt845?? moterbroad. I can not get 7.3 to load. I get to the point of calibrating APIC timer ... ....CPU clock speedis 1595.3360 mhz ....host bus clock speed is 0.000mhz cpu:0, clocks:0, slice:0 And it stops. This happen with the boot floppy or the cdrom and in text mode. If i go with graphics I get a blank screen. If i boot in safe i can get get the normal installation screen. So why is that ? Interesting !! I wonder if in safe mode, the auto-detection of needed modules is done ? About the controller, I seem to recall the spec to be Adaptec 7892A, so the aic7xxx.o driver is used on it. When you go thro' the install steps , manually choose the scsi module, you have the choice of new_aic7xxx and aic7xxx. Sometimes, I know the new one does lock the install.
