Xserver 4.02 problems
I am currently running SuSE 7.0 and Vmware 2.0, plus the KDE 2.1 beta I had X 4.01, VmWare 2.0, adn KDE 2.1 beta running fine. I then decided to upgrade to X 4.02. I downloaded all the files in the X4.02 directory on SuSe's ftp server. I did not read the Readme. I simply used YAST1 to install all the rpm's. The readme says to use rpm --nodeps --force *.rpm and then run ldconfig. I have my machine set up for graphical login. The graphical login comes up, I enter my name and Password, and then the login to kde2 (or kde1 for that matter) hangs. I then swithc to console 2, log in as root, run yast, and switch to ASCII login. I reboot. I login, then run startx kde2 and kde2 comes up fine. The VMware demon, however, does not run and consequently I cannot use vmware. When I am set up for the graphical login, however, the vmware demon does run and vmnet0 and vmnet 1 are set up. I have attempted to unistall X 4.02 by going to the directory where the 4.02 rpms are and typing rpm -e *.rpm. This gives me the nmessage that the rpm's aren't installed. I have reionstalled the X 4.01 rpm's with the rpm --nodeps --force command and running ldconfig. X still won't come up with the graphical login. I would be happy to use the ASCII login if only the vmware demons would run. Thanks for any thoughts. Mike
