I've broken kwintv !
God knows how I've done it, but I seem to have broken kwintv. ! basically, everytime I start kwintv, it goes straight to the scan wizard, even though its already configured.... I admit, I was trying to get the remote control working (it stopped last week for no apparent reason) and was in root when I started kwintv by mistake - it muttered something about kdeinit and child processes but I didn't make a note.. There is nothing in /var/log/messages or /var/log/warn that appears relevant. If I 'cancel' the wizard, everything runs normally until the next time I start the program. What can I do, I've created a new user and run kwintv and its fine for him ! Help !! Pete

Hi Pete, I don't have any idea about kwintv, but if it is that way, you could: First, have a look if there is a kwintvrc file or similar, preferably in $HOME/.kde2, and if it's there, it's most likely the one containing your 'malicious' settings, then simply delete it, to start from 'scratch' using the defaults. Second, reinstall kwintv, either by first uninstalling (rpm -e) and then reinstalling (rpm -Uvh), or by installing it again forcing rpm to ignore that it's already there (rpm -Uvh --force) Cheers ... I've tried deleting the .kwintvrc directory - no change and re-installed the package via Yast although I'm tempted to go for the force option - will give it a go tonight ! Pete On Saturday 12 January 2002 18:28, you wrote:

It seems to be more of a case that none of the changes I am making are being saved, I suppose therefore that even though I am going through the wizard stage, it is not registering the fact. I know this now, as the volume, aspect ratio and other settings are not being held. I seem to remember that there was something similiar on the list a few weeks/months ago, so will trawl through and see what I can find. Oh and buy the way, I found out why the Remote Control stopped working.. The bloody plug had come out on the TV card - doh !!!!! Pete On Saturday 12 January 2002 19:04, you wrote:

You don't mention which version of kwintv you're using. I had that problem before, but with the last few versions it's been gone. Then again, if it used to work, I have no clue regards Anders On Saturday 12 January 2002 21.58, pete atkinson wrote:

By a process of elimination.. I found that the file :- .kde2/share/config/kwintvrc had become 600 root root, in effect root had taken over the config, probably when I was f***ing about as su.. now theres a lesson to be learnt. Restored it to the right owner and group and bobs your uncle. Thanks to everybody Ta, Pete On Saturday 12 January 2002 20:59, you wrote:
