[opensuse] fping for SUSE 6.1
Hi Guys I have a couple of remote servers (not _actually_ mine) running SUSE 6.1 in production. (Please don't bother to tell me to upgrade them. I am aware of ALL the issues and so is the owner). Now I need to install fping on these boxes, but the media has proven difficult to find. I have tried downloading the fping src.rpm file from SUSE 9.0 (The oldest SUSE version I could find on the FTP mirrors) but it has numerous macros etc in it which cause it to not build properly on 6.1. I do have some SLES8 cds around which will be my next try, before attempting to fix the spec file manually (I did try for a few minutes, but it turns out that almost ALL of the rpm macros in use today, did not exist on SUSE 6.1 so it is proving a huge trial and error effort. If any one has the SUSE 6.1 media kicking around I would appreciate them shooting me a copy of the fping source rpm (There are 6.1 - 7.x boxes on the network so I will need to build it for a few different versions) or even the fping binary rpm. I'll have a look at home. I started using SuSE during the 6.x era, but I can't remember by heart what the first version I bought was. I still have 7.0 and 7.3 sitting on my desk, if that can help you. HTH Cheers. Bye. Ph. heh. I still remember installing SUSE 5.x (5.3 I think) for the first time after spending years arguing with RedHat... I've never looked back :-)

The fping src.rpm from 7.0 would be very helpfull if you can find it Thanks -- Peter Nixon http://www.peternixon.net/ PGP Key: http://www.peternixon.net/public.asc -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Well... the first time I installed SuSE was the 6.2 version but, I couldn't find the media. The best I can get you is the 7.2 rpm and src.rpm version of fping... If you want them you can get it at http://www.rusiantos.com/~rsantos/fping72/ Also, in that directory, there's also a static version of the fping binary and man page...
Thanks in Advance
Hope it helps.

ATTENTION: Richard Bos Thanks for the source package for 7.0 Regarding you pcapsipdump question, I have actually replied to you twice about it, but you don't seem to be seeing my replies :-( You can find me on #opensuse-buildservice as Nix Cheers -- Peter Nixon http://www.peternixon.net/ PGP Key: http://www.peternixon.net/public.asc -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

At ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/discontinued/ you can find at least back up to 7.0 (.old-saved.050918/i386). At /pub/linux/suse/discontinued/.old-saved.050918/i386/update I see the updates for 4.0! The /pub/linux/suse/discontinued/i386 has from 7.3 to 9.3 and the respective updates. Look around, you may find old mirrors for your versions; I have seen it not many months ago, a year perhaps. Ah, some more: /pub/linux/suse/5.3/ /pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.de/.obsolete/suse_update/SuSE-6.2 /pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.de/suse/i386/7.0 - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Hi Peter, I have the 6.1 media. Would you like me to email you the fping package off list? Just the source package or binary too? Cheers, James. On Friday 18 May 2007 07:37, Peter Nixon wrote:
