You're probably OK, but I would suggest that you go into the YaST ISDN configuration and enter your country code to make sure things are OK. Then check again. If you don't put in a country code, SuSE will try to dial a number in Germany. Of course this ought to fail, but AFAICT some ISPs have deliberately set up numbers this way, presumably so that if you do get it wrong, you still connect correctly. I know you could do this in the UK with BT's ISDN number because I did it a few times before I got ISDN set up with the right number. I suspect you won't have any additional charges but you'd have to check your 'phone bill for that. -- JDL

It certainly looks you are dialing Berlin at international phone call charges. +49 is the code for placing international calls to Germany, 30 might be the area code for Berlin. Why? No idea. Perhaps your setup has a default or sample configuration you have not deleted. -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson
John & Carlos: Thank you for your replies. I know it looks like I'm dialing an international number but I checked with the telephone company and I have no extra charges. I added the country and area codes to the ISDN YaST setup but I still get similar messages (the German number changed!). Anyway, I really don't know what is all about, but since I have no extra charges I 'll be waiting for my ADSL connection in about a week or so. pinto: Forthnet is a good provider, but I really hate their early moning router/DNS/don'tknowhat restarts.

Hi there! Unfortunately (for you) this is not an answer but a request for assistance. Can you, please, detail how you manage to connect to the Internet in the first place? I assume that you are located in Greece and use Itracom's Netmod ISDN box. I've tried wvdial, but after after a couple of seconds it disconnects me. In /var/log/messages something along the lines of "remote has hang up" is written. So far I've only used OTEnet as an ISP. If you feel this has no place in this list, please take it off-line with a direct reply to me. Thank you very much, -Stathis
