Maybe this has been covered but I missed it... I have a duron 750 box with SuSE 8.1 pro on it. On boot up it boots to init 3 (my choice) and everytime I start X my mouse doesn't work. To get it to work I have to alt-f2 start yast2 and go into hardware and change my mouse from intelli/wheel mouse (Aux-port) to PS2 mouse (Aux port). Then the next time I start X it won't work then I go back and change it back to intelli/wheel mouse. It is getting rather annoying only having a working mouse wheel 1/2 the time. Things worth mentioning Mouse is a MS wireless optical mouse Computer is hooked up through a 4 port iogear kvm. Rob

I have a 2 port Belkin KVM, and I have run it in v8.1 but not much (due to my boot and LAN issues). But the KVM's mouse emulation may be the problem. I know that with my Logitech MX700 (wireless optical) mouse, the KVM is *constantly* "losing" the emulation in Win2K and it reverts to a more generic 3-button mouse and also loses use of the scroll wheel. -- Sincerely, Neil Blanchard mailto:neil.blanchard@verizon.net
PLEASE do not hi-jack threads. If you have a new problem start a new message. Their is NO mention of a Belkin KVM here. On Wed, 2003-04-09 at 09:28, Neil Blanchard wrote:

Most likely a similar problem though Ken. The low end kvm switches are known to not support imps/2 very well if at all and tend to revert back to ps/2 when one switches between machines. The issue isn't limited to Belkin. -- John LeMay KC2KTH Senior Enterprise Consultant NJMC | http://www.njmc.com | Phone 732-557-4848 Specializing in Microsoft and Unix based solutions
Its not just the mouse wheel that stops working though, the mouse will not move at all until I go into yast2 and change the type. It will happen if I exit X and restart X without switching between computers. Neil, I wouldn't take Ken's comments too seriously, I think your comment was completely justified. My apoligies to the list as I missed the part about the KVM. Unless you have a very good ($$$) KVM you will continue to have problems with any mouse connected. The advice I offered about XF86Config is what fixed a simular problem I was having with my home laptop which is not on a KVM switch. Ken Schneider On Wed, 2003-04-09 at 11:31, Rob Sell wrote:

Actually, the Belkin model that I have (# F1DK102P -- 2 port with attatched cables and a keyboard "hotkey" toggle) DOES support "multiple operating systems", and the scroll wheel and the two main buttons function correctly even after toggling to the Win2K desktop and back. It does lack support for all EIGHT buttons on my MX700 in Win2K & Linux, though. ;-) Now if I could solve my boot and LAN problems (that I posted on another message) I'd love to able to actually make *use* of SuSE on my new, fast, machine! -- Sincerely, Neil Blanchard mailto:neil.blanchard@verizon.net
I have found that if I change to a non X console (console F7) like Console F10 and then back again it fixes the mouse behavior. I am using the 4 port Belkin as well. My KVM supports both ps/2 and USB devices. If I use the USB devices I don't seem to have the mouse problem. Robert On Wednesday, April 9, 2003, at 08:31 AM, Rob Sell wrote:

I posted this previously on this list. Looks like people don't research the archives. edit your /etc/X11/XF86Config and change (under mouse) --from-- Option "Protocol" "ps/2" --to-- Option "Protocol" "imps/2" Restart X and the wheel should work.
