Thanks, Istvan. Unfortunately it does not work on my leap. It shows only a black background, but not the image :-( Maybe I am missing something? Perhaps it is time to move to a photo viewer that is still supported, the last build for 42.1 is over four years ago. There must be at least two or three available, xv, feh, display, ...

I would, if there would be something useful for my purposes: simply show a photo per click without any tools using up screen space, easy zoom, easy several windows... xv: the zoom (. and ,) streches the image in one direction, the context menu is a desaster and you have to keep mouse button pressed or the menus disappear... feh: opens image in full size, thus showing only part, zooming the window does not resize the window, even resizing the window via context menu only resizes the width while the height stays the maximum of the screen... display: must be started from console and I can open exactly one image per console. Furthermore is complicated to zoom with adjusted window size. I need something I can use per right click in dolphin or digikam for example, to open several images to compare them (layout table programs don't help, they are too complicated, too slow, and need too much space for their tools). Kuickshow is (was? :-) ) old but it's simpleness is unreached. Easy to zoom (even using keys that make sense: + and -), rotate... I see from your other post that you've now got Kuickshow working, but do you know that Gwenview added some of the functionality you're seeking? It wasn't there in earlier KDE4 releases but got added later. You can hold down Ctrl (or use the + and - selection markers, if enabled) to select multiple images which display side by side or, in the case of 4 or more, in a grid. You can then press F to undo the Zoom to Fit setting of the current image (or right-click on any of the others images and uncheck Zoom to Fit), then use Ctrl++ or Ctrl+- to zoom in and out, Ctrl+L or Ctrl+R to rotate, etc.. Kuickshow (from the above repo) now works on my leap 42.1! Don't know if it's because of the latest system updates or simply because of logging out/rebooting... but hey: it works!
