Very cool. We just created a custom boot CD with some of the unique software we need. We've talked about doing it for a couple years and never took the time to dive in and do it. One surprise was that "strings" was not part of our first build. We went back into to studio to find it and could not find a way to search for a package by "provides strings". Easy enough to do that via yast and figure out we needed binutils, but it was the only hickup we had so I have to complain about something. Yes, searching is a bit difficult.... Today i made a tiny ldap-appliance, and wanted phpldapadmin in it. Only way, was to goto the search-engine of the OBS, detect in which repo it was located, incude that particular repo, and then add phpldapadmin.. Which makes me wonder: i know that there's a forum and irc-channel for studio, but is there also the possibility of feature-request for studio in bugzilla? btw, i like the new jeOS. I signed up months ago and have heard nothing. I was able to get someone with access to build me a cd, but once it was installed and I added repos, it tried to install all kinds of stuff, and some things didn't work right. Since I don't have access to it, I can't build a better one. There are too many dependencies in openSUSE to do a really good custom install. Example: I just tried to remove avahi, and got way too many dependencies, so I gave up. Something like that shouldn't be so deep into the system. I never needed it before and don't now. I've looked into KIWI, but haven't tried it yet. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I think Studio is a web wrapper around KIWI. Unless you are doing something odd, KIWI is rather straight forward. Out of the box, it comes with configurations for making DVD, VM, USB, PXE, OEM, LTSP and other images. It can be customized via a few XML files. BTW, it is easy to add repositories and packages from anywhere smart or zypper allow. I really like that I can check my scripts to make images in to my source control system, making image creation a bit more reliable and trackable. -- Roger Oberholtzer OPQ Systems / Ramböll RST Ramböll Sverige AB Krukmakargatan 21 P.O. That could be. I'll have to see if I can find some time to check KIWI out more fully this weekend. I'm just not very happy with all the dependencies. There are still way too many dependencies on a fully installed system to remove something. To remove avahi, I would have had to remove almost all of my KDE and/or gnome(which I'm not running) because one things needs this, and then something else needs that. Very frustrating..... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, it depends on the avahi library, but you can remove the avahi daemon, I think. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. I've found that even using the 11.1 JeOS setup in Studio, the smallest you can get things is just under 100 MB. Compared to some of the smaller distros out there, this is quite huge. On the flip side, though, I've found Studio to be really useful for building images to troubleshoot issues with a web site I'm setting up through a donation from a local ISP. I do wish they'd left the 11.0 setups in there, though - it's all 11.1, and I wanted to build a custom 11.0 setup to run the upgrade to 11.1 through once before starting on my real systems.
