SUSE 9.1, Samba 3.0.4-1.2 and Windows NT Domain
I have read a few articles about having troubles with SUSE, but seem unable to resolve my issues. I can see the domain and all the visible machines, but I can't seem to connect to shares. It says unable to resolve address. If I do a ping to the server name I get an address and vice versa. I thought I would try running LinNeighborhood to mount the shares like I did in 9.0. I get the same error message. So I ran LinNeighborhood from console to see if I could get a little better error message. This is the only thing that looks fishy to me. resolve_lmhosts: Attempting lmhosts lookup for name NEMO<0x20> resolve_wins: Attempting wins lookup for name NEMO<0x20> resolve_wins: WINS server resolution selected and no WINS servers listed. resolve_hosts: Attempting host lookup for name NEMO<0x20> anyone lead me in the right direction here. Where is it looking for WINS servers. I have my NIC setup for DHCP and when I looked at the settings it looks like it is getting all the DNS and WINS servers for the domain. Any help would be appreciated. James

And a hi from Bellaire, MI. The smb.conf files changed with 9.1. How did you configure this file?

Are you on a home network with several other machines? (maybe windows machines?) You should put your LAN address in the above instead of localhost.... interfaces = 192.168.xx.xx eth0 (or whatever) Otherwise you're not going to 'see' out of your local machine.
bind interfaces only = true printing = cups printcap name = cups printer admin = @ntadmin, root, administrator map to guest = Bad User security = user encrypt passwords = yes

I had the same problems. i got the same error messages with Linneighborhood. I also tried using the /etc/samba/smbfs file and the /etc/fstab file. in those cases i got the error message "SMB authentication required we have disabled it" or something like that. the command mount -t smbfs //serveripaddress/sharename /mountpoint -0 username=mikecoan, uid=mikecoan, gid=users also gave an error. I successfully mount shares on a Windows 2003 server from a Suse 9.1 box by issuing the following command as root (all on one line) mount -t cifs //192.168.1.1/SHAREDATA /home/mikecoan/MOUNTPOINT -o user=mikecoan, domain=DOMAINNAME,uid=mikecoan, gid=users,rw Substitute the real ip address and real names for the domain, share and mountpoint. Sweet, that mounted it, but it seems to have another issue. When I go to copy a file to the share I mounted it starts off transferring very quickly (17mb/sec), but then will dwindle and finally stall. After it stalls it will then hose my machine causing me to have to cold boot it. Did you have similar issues? Thanks for the help. James On Tue, 2004-06-01 at 16:51 -0400, Mike Coan wrote:

I had this issue, and it ended up being hyperthreading on my machine. Once
I turned it off, I no longer had the issue anymore.
