Two options ,

1/ install suse ontop of the dos/win file system , howerer it runs much slowere.

2/ use partionmagic or fips( a shareware partining tool to shrink your windows partion to make roome for a seperate linux partion , after shrinking you just create a new partion for linux. You can just format it as a dos partion , and when suse install will then reformnat it for linux. MAKE SURE YOU SELECT THE CORRECT PARTION(NEW EMPTY ONE) OR ELSE YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR GOOD WIN PARTION. BETTER YET MAKE A COMPLETE BACKUP.
make a note of the size of each , ie 1st partion (windows) 1.5 gig , new linux partion 1.0 gig , the make sure you choose the 1 gig partion when instaling suse.
Read the section in the manuale on partioning , both expert and novice , and the install section on setting up and allocating linux partions.

3/ option add in a new drive stricly for linux , you can get them real cheap , especialy in the 1->2.5 gig Aprx $100.00 range. or grin and bear and go for a new 10/11 gig drive which go for aprc $275.00

At 10:13 PM 11/22/1998 -0800, you wrote:
>>>>

Hey Can Anyone help???

I have Win95 and want to use Linux on the same computer, is there anyway to get out of formatting my HD and partitoning?
S.u.S.E. ver 5.2
Win 95 ver C

Please Respond to: <mailto:J.Pugh/CGCMorgenthau@internet.uscg.mil>J.Pugh/CGCMorgenthau@internet.uscg.mil
if at all possible
Thanx in adv :}
Josh

<<<<

- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
Hi, Installation alongside Win95, and the associated partitioning is one of the few things I have actually been rather successful with. If you need further assistance, feel free to ask me directly. BTW, don't feel bad about setup problems. I've not yet been able to get XF86 running under SuSE, although I've ALWAYS been able to do so under RedHat 5.0. For *some* reason, configuring with SuSE seems more problematic...
