[opensuse] Openoffice 2.2: Missing fonts in math formula imported from MSWord
I have checked this problem with some users from the openoffice users list first. They could not verify it on XP and on PCLinuxOS. So it looks like an problem with my openSUSE system. I hope some of you can help: The first URL links to a MSWord file which contains a math formula. After importing it into OO.org Writer 2.2 the display lacks a few fonts, esp. brackets. The second URL links to a jpg containing a screenshot which shows the problem. http://www.unbase.com/n/3623311276 http://www.unbase.com/n/1368645557 This is on openSUSE 10.2 with OO.org built rpms version 2.2. MS core fonts are installed. Thanks! Guido -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Guido Hi, when I am opening your file in OOorg 2.2 (latest version from OOorg on SL 10.2), the formula looks absolutely clean, but does not have any brackets.
Now I open your file in my MS-Office viewer 2003 from MS with wine on Linux. Btw: I use this rarely but reliably to get the "officially microsoft certified view" of an office doucument layout, when in doubt. Surprise, your file looks really weird. The fractions of your sample are surrounded by big, fat awfull looking "X" characters, very similar to your OOorg jpg, but actually much worse. So you might want to -go to your windows machine -open your file with MS-Word -look whether it looks okay -if it does, identify the font of the brackets -if it does not, forget it and: -proceed from there regards Eberhard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, that's the problem.

Probably caused by the same fault like the missing brackets in OOo.org.
So you might want to -go to your windows machine -open your file with MS-Word -look whether it looks okay I don't have MSWord. I have Openoffice 2.1 on my XP, where the formula displays fine. -if it does, identify the font of the brackets
Can't tell how. However, the doc contains a few lines which give a hint: MathType 5.0 Equation MathType EFEquation.DSMT4ô9²q[ÁÞÌè<¤èDSMT5WinAllBasicCodePagesArialSymbolCourier NewTimes New RomanMT Extr I have now opened an Issue in the Openoffice bugtracker: http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=76587 Guido -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

[...] Hi Guido, ok. Just to complicate things. I recently upgraded my XP OOorg to 2.2, as well. This one is also directly from OOorg. So I took the chance and just opened your file there. It displays perfectly well, including correctly set brackets, both square and rounded. However, the formula is not editable, as I would expect. Instead it is displayed as one single object that is labelled "OLE" in the OOorg menu bar. As this imho is a (somehow) old windows standard for inter-application communications, maybe the problem is that Linux naturally (and luckily!) does not know about OLE? kind regards Eberhard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Yes, that's what it does here on my XP partition too.
However, the formula is not editable, as I would expect.

Yes. That's ok, too. In my Openoffice.org on XP it does'nt either since MathType is not installed here. And I would not expect it to open on my Linux system, too. I am only interested why the formula doesn't display the brackets and other types like the multicplication dot. Guido Now, I think, I'll get it. Sorry for taking that long. ;-)
While I think it is great to expect OpenOffice to handle doc-files that are originated from a 3rd party application (Mathtype), OOorg should at least display identically on both, Lin and Win. Later I will get my hands dirty on an older Laptop with Xubuntu 6.06 and OOorg 2.01 (I believe). Will test there and report back, should that work "better". regards Eberhard -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
