[SLE] How to update fonts.alias file?
Hello Linux folks! I got a question how to update fonts.alias file I copied a new xxxx.pcf.gz font into .../X11/fonts/misc directory and executed mkfontdir command to update fonts.dir file. The new font was included into fonts.dir file. In the same .../misc font directory I saw fonts.alias file which wasn't updated with the new font, therefore Linux can't see the new font. Could somebody advise me how to include new xxxx.pcf.gx font into fonts.alias file. To the best of my knowledge, you update it with a text-editor ;-) if you want to call a font by the name fred, then add it to the file: fred -long-font-name-from-fonts.dir-
I saw fonts.alias file which wasn't updated with the new font, therefore Linux can't see the new font.
I don't think that is why. Perhaps you should restart X. You can call fonts by the long name given in fonts.dir files and optionally shorten that name with the alias file. Hello, no don't bother with the text editor unless you know what your doing. Go to http://www.firstnethou.com/gz/xfsft_HOW-TO.html There is instructions on setting up xfsft in detail. Part of this involved creating the fonts.alias file. That part was a piece of cake. So just take a look at that part to job your memory. George Tue, 11 Apr 2000, ÷Ù ÎÁÐÉÓÁÌÉ:
