As far as I know, kdar was dropped from the 10.3 distribution since it has not been maintained upstream for quite some time and the existing version of kdar does no longer work with the dar version that is shipped with 10.3. Maybe you can find some patched kdar RPMs on the net... Th. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It seems. I tried to compile kdar myself but got a bunch of errors like: createArchiveThread.cpp:81: error: cannot declare variable ‘userInteractionDialog’ to be of abstract type ‘KDarInteraction’ KDarInteraction.h:31: note: because the following virtual functions are pure within ‘KDarInteraction’: /usr//include/dar/user_interaction.hpp:300: note: virtual void libdar::user_interaction::inherited_warning(const std::string&) etc. Is there any alternative frontend to dar similar to kdar? That possibly can even handle backups created by kdar? I just started using kdar in 10.2 and now it's gone from 10.3 Thanks, IG Filmek egy kattintásra tőled – Zene és szöveg, Híd Terabithia Földjére, Kiképzés és még több új film a T-Online Tékában! ________________________________________________________ http://www.teka.t-online.hu -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Th. Is there a program in 10.3 to replace kdar? I use kdar in 10.2 to backup my /home and other files. K3B does not do this well. -- Russ Linux register user 441463 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Sorry, I can't answer these questions. The problem with kdar was discussed on opensuse-de, but I don't recall whether any alternatives have been mentioned. However, you could perhaps follow the following advice: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/susenovell-60/kdar-for-opensuse-10.3... Thanks Thomas: In the meantime I could compile kdar myself. I removed the following suse 10.3 dar related packages: dar-2.3.4-21 libdar-4-2.3.4-21 libdar-devel-2.3.4-21 Instead of these I installed these dar packages (from the same site that you gave the link to): http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/andrewd18/ openSUSE_10.3/i586/dar-2.2.5-26.1.i586.rpm http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/andrewd18/ openSUSE_10.3/i586/libdar-2.2.5-26.1.i586.rpm http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/andrewd18/ openSUSE_10.3/i586/libdar-devel-2.2.5-26.1.i586.rpm I got the kdar source files from sourceforge, kdar version 2.0.7 (http://kdar.sourceforge.net). ./configure make make install all worked flawlessly with these dar packages. ./configure make make install
</snip> Thanks for posting your solution. I followed it and made two changes. I could not find version 2.0.7 on sourceforge so I found it somewhere else. I then did a checkinstall instead of make install and I now have the rpm. I just backed up my home directory, then restored it with no problems. The kdar 2.0.7 src is here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=96947 I have not tried to make an rpm package yet but I will try one time. I wanted to keep the dar and libdar versions in openSUSE 10.3 but also use KDar, so I built libdar from the dar-2.2.5 sources, and installed it within my home directory. Then I built kdar-2.0.7 linking to this libdar. But in doing this I encountered a configuration problem. On the command line with the invocation of configure I passed CPPFLAGS and LDFLAGS set to the dar-2.2.5 include and lib directories, but configure still complained that it couldn't find libdar, although it was in the lib directory. The only solution I found was to symlink this libdar to /usr/lib (which of course I had to do as root). Then I could build kdar and it works fine. But I assume it should be possible to build and install it completely locally, without becoming root. Does anyone know what I missed?
