What do you have your output plugin set to in Xmms when aRts is disabled? Tim Harrell

I get this same problem, but the issue is taken care of by going into the KDE control console, clicking on Sound, and restarting the Arts Server. Once this is done, everything works fine.
However, in order to play Quake III, I have to restart KDE 2.2 with the Arts Server disabled. If I leave the Arts server disabled, I still have sound using XMMS, and the notifications that have sounds work.

Going into user account I get this message, Sound Server informational message: Error while initializing the sound sever: device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device) The sound server will continue, using null output device
In my xconsole when booting into KDE it shows
Aug 15 11:41:12 linux insmod: insmod: a module named snd-pcm-plugin already exists Aug 15 11:41:12 linux insmod: insmod: insmod sound-service-0-3 failed
It looks like snd-pcm might be the problem, how to fix it I have no clue.
Does sound work, if you do a "killall artsd && artswrapper" ?
Bye, LenZ
