[opensuse] screen freezes, no keyboard
Hello list, since a few days the following happened several times: - visting several webpages (that contain flash elements) in several browser windows - suddenly the screen "freezes", each time in another way: - the screen image started to blink on and off (fast) and then freezes - the screen freezes the actual image, or - the screens turns into a pattern of frozen color atrefacts - the mouse pointer still moves, but - the keyboard doesn't work anmore, I cannot swich to a console and cannot shut down normally (only hardware reset possible...). Even the caps- or num- lock buttons do not work anymore. I havn't updated anything as I am travelling and did not want to risk anything. However, it worked seemlessly since more than a month and only started this behaviour since a few days. I saw this behaviour when either the RAM was broken or the graphics chipset overheated at some point in the past and was thus semi-broken. If it was not graphics related it could also be some bad sectors on the hard disk. Thank you Sven, it seems, you are right - unfortunately ... ;-) it just happened again, and when restarting the screen was errornous even before the Bios messages appeard, corretly said: they did not appear. I left the Computer half an hour and now I could restart it.
