Un...believe..able.
I think it's pronounced "Un...be...lievable" Perhaps we should call it "corsetware?"

<http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/08/11/winxp_starter_edition_announced/> This editorial strikes me as a bit odd. There seems to be an unspoken assumption that in Southeast Asia the only players are Microsoft and the PTB / PHBs in the Thai, Malay and Indonesian governments and that every other player or force (users, vendors, developers and the market) is absent or irrelevant. Is there any reason to believe that this part of the world (alone?) is without the forces and players (individual software developers, system administrators and end users) that exert a force away from expensive and low-quality Microsoft products? Or is there some kind of hidden bias behind this writer's analysis?

I've found that there's a typical anti-MS bias from that news source...in line with a common attitude from end-users in Britain and Europe. Most articles I read from the register tend to pump linux somewhat and diss MS, as a rule. I'm not sure it's about anything lacking in Asia, there's just a whole bunch of people over there that are looking for computers and OS's to run on them, and many of them lack the finances to afford Windows. The alternative is illegal copies of Windows, or Linux...MS wants to offer an alternative - legal, cheap crippleware. Bizarre, but not for MS I guess...;) Cheers, J.C. -- John Coldrick www.axyzfx.com Axyz Animation Houdini/Renderman/Discreet 425 Adelaide St W 416-504-0425 Toronto, ON Canada jc@axyzfx.com M5V 1S4 ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Everybody is somebody else's weirdo. -- Dykstra
