[opensuse] Laser Colour Printer recomendation
I've a HP LaserJet 5MP since 1995. A perfect bw simplex machine. But the times demand colour prints in both faces of the pages. Can anyone give me recommendations for colour laser printers? Of course they have to be Postscript ones. -- Regards, Lívio Cipriano -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I just bought a few HP Laser Jet 5550dtn machines. Nice color output. I believe they do PS level 3. -- kai Free Compean and Ramos http://www.grassfire.org/142/petition.asp http://www.perfectreign.com/?q=node/46 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

The print quality has been good, especially PDF files created with Scribus. They know have a newer model (6180 I think) that prints faster. Only negative I found is its a little noisy. I can live with that after my experiences with my Epson and HP all in one printers.

I've been reading very good recommendations for Xerox printers, specially because of their driver support. I've you already changed the toners? -- Regards, Lívio Cipriano -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have several generations of Phasers, all work VERY well. Also have an HP2550ln which, with the 128Mb RAM upgrade [available on e-bay very cheap], will also chew threw large Postscript files without any problem. In either case toner/ink is expensive. Keep a B&W printer around for grunt work. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
I got a Xerox Phaser 8550 DP about a year ago. It is fantastic. Duplex, color, networking, Real Adobe postscript. They support unix, however the only thing you need is the ppd file that it is in their site or you can install the one for win2K which are the same. All function work. Uses solid ink, price is a little cheaper than color laser at least when I priced it about a year ago. The other interesting features is that ink does not go through like laser or worst inkjets so you can print color duplex in a light weight paper. It is very fast. It handles envelopes pretty well. So I am sold to it. -=terry(Denver)=- On Mon, 2007-03-19 at 09:58 -0700, russbucket wrote:

The color cartridges are expensive. You can set the printer's settings via a web based interface. We currently have color turned off by default, but individuals can turn color on for specific needs. However, the Brother color laser printers are cheaper. I have a Xerox 8550 DP at work. Prints are beautiful. It's not really a laser, it's a di-sub. Uses wax blocks. It's nick is the Crayola Printer. Kicks out about 20+ sheets when duplexing. The wax holds up really well on the prints. If you get one of these (or whatever the latest version is) - do not turn it off unless it is absolutely necessary. You'll go through those wax blocks in record time. Turn it on and leave it on. And forget the shelf life for "toner" consumables - unlike traditional laser toner refills. There isn't a great deal of maintenance on this printer either, unlike an HP 4550. Has the smallest footprint I've seen for a network color printer. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I think it's not such a new technology. I worked with one of these printers back 1995. But the perspective of "forget the consumables" sounds nice. -- Regards, Lívio Cipriano -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

While they are GREAT printers, I own 2 older models for home use, my wife prints hundreds of brochures at a time for her real estate business. Buy only Xerox ink sticks, there is a documented problem with 3rd party ink reacting with Xerox's ink and clogging the very expensive ink jet head. I am probably going to buy a newer one soon, just because they are so low maintenance -- In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice; In practice, there is Robert Cunningham Sr. Physics Laboratory Coordinator /RSO K -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Xerox mentioned the problem with 3rd party suppliers for the ink blocks. Figured the price difference wasn't enough to try the 3rd party ink blocks. Managed to get the printer with 512MB for around $1,000. Try to get an HP with 512MB of ram and duplexing for that price. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
