I had the exact same problem. It was my network card. I moved it to
another slot and told the bios to clear all the previous settings. It
worked fine after that. I have a new problem though. in Xwindows
everything looks fine except I have a 2" black border on the left side of my
screen. I looked up my monitor settings and have it set correctly. Anyone
know how to fix this???

Most likely you have another device share the same IRQ that the Riva card is using. This causes the current driver to lock up. The reason is unknown at this point. Once you convince the BIOS of your system not to share the IRQ the server will work.
