HELIX engine on 10.1
Hi, Using AMAROK, configured to use the HELIX sound engine in AMAROK configuration. I experiance short, sub-second, pauses in the playback. This happens regardless of source type: MP3 or OGG. Anyone else have this prob? Any suggestions as to how to fix it. I know that as purchased 10.1 and AMAROK cannot play MP3s ehrn the XINE engine is configured, but right now YAST is rejecting PACKMAN as an alternate install source. Thanks ......... PeterB

Two things to try: a) Amarok doesn't have a built-in option to set the sound buffer size, but KDE's sound system does. Use the KDE Control Center and increase the size of your audio buffer. K Button --> Personal Settings --> Sound/Multimedia --> Sound System. b) Try another player, just to see if it still pauses. If it doesn't, the problem is probably with Amarok. If neither of those works, the problem is lower level, possibly with Alsa. If that is the case, you'll need to do more investigation. But try (a) and (b) first to rule out that option. -- ----- stephan@s11n.net http://s11n.net "...pleasure is a grace and is not obedient to the commands of the will." -- Alan W. Watts

Peter: What is the message you're getting for Packman? Remember - it has mirrors. Here's what I'm using... ftp source: packman.unixheads.com directory: suse/10.1 Of course, it has been giving me this obnoxious "Signature Check Failed" message, which I have to buypass each time. Dunno what that is. can you not load Packman into the YastSource? -- Kai Ponte www.perfectreign.com Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government.
